Samurai Torii Set available NOW!!

2018-09-15 by David

The second terrain piece for our growing samurai-themed range launches today, with a two-gate set of torii shrine gates!

  Samurai Torii Gate Set

£ The set contains two torii gates, with various options. This is the smaller stone gate, with the rope and paper tassles. Two other versions of those pillars are included (engraved and plain), both without the decorative rope, so you can use several different versions on your board.

£ As you can see, the larger wooden torii gate is a fair bit bigger and more ornate. While the stone version is typically found in more rural locations and smaller woodland shrines, the large red gate would be found in richer shrine complexes.

£ The wooden version has two top options, the tiled version shown above.....

£ ... and this plain version without the rooftiles.

£ You can further personalise your torii gate by printing your favourite clan symbol from the Samurai Clan Symbols Set (at 40% size), and using it to show your shrine's patronage.

The picture above shows the Clan Ogasawara symbol, which is our local clan here in Kitakyushu city (historically famous for Kokura Castle).

£ Clan Oda symbols shown above (the floral motif) are included in the set if you choose to decorate your torii gate. The central signs on both gates are also optional.

£ Fighting beneath the shrine entrance!

£ Mounted samurai cavalry can ride to battle between the large wooden pillars.

£ Another scale shot. One shrine will typically have several torii gates leading up to it.

£ Putting together this large torii gives a fun model kit buzz, as it prints in approximately 8 pieces.

£ Very detailed ropes and stones add to the realism, and you could paint this one in red if you prefer.

* If you're going for authentic colours, your red should actually be a slightly orangey red, according to shinto shrine rules!

£ Just some of the printing options!

This is a really nice model! It'll look great in Test of Honour! I'm just curious, what's the meaning of the sign on the bigger torii? Is that random kanji or does it mean something?

Thanks for the comment! The 4 characters on the larger gate say Yasaka Shrine, which is the name of my local shrine, next to the castle (Kokura Castle) in town.

Many thanks for your quick and informative answer, David! The real shrine looks beautiful too.
