Adding green lenses to Necrontyr Objectives

2018-06-30 by David

Last little blog article before the official release of the Necrontyr Objectives - this time a quick "how to" guide about how to add lenses to your 3D prints.

I wanted to diffuse the light from the LEDs inside the objectives, so that they'd have a more uniform glow. Without lenses your LEDs might make it a bit bright at the bottom of each Necrontyr symbol, and a bit dark at the top. So this should distribute the light more evenly...

£ I started with a couple of clear green plastic file folders from my local stationery shop. On top of this I gave them a quick spray of matt varnish on both sides, to "fog" the plastic a little.

£ After some quick measuring, I found that panels needed to be 24mm wide and the top, and 34mm wide at the bottom, with a height of 50mm. Plus some small 24mm squares for the top lenses.

£ Then a few dabs of white wood glue inside and a firm press, and they were done. You can see the results and some finished photos very, very soon, I promise...
