Designing the canals

2019-03-15 by David

Right in the middle of designing the samurai farm set and pond set (and some necrontyr stuff!), I've taken a quick detour into this small set of canal sections too! Oops!!

My excuse is that people kept asking about a river set, now that the samurai bridges have been released.

£ Based on the castle walls set, these are lowered to 30mm (rather than the 75mm for the castle walls), and comprises of central 120mm x 120mm sections, then much smaller edge sections ... only 40mm deep. Plus corners etc. This gives a little more flexibility for those wanting to vary their layouts.

£ After some more thought, I decided to re-work the design for the dock steps (compare this pic to an earlier work-in-progress pic further above), so they could pull double duty as steps for anybody wanting to use these as low hills, without any water nearby.

£ The last part of the canals set will be this small punt boat, as found even in present-day in Yanagawa city (about an hour's drive from here) - often called the Venice of Japan*!!

*But without the romance, or gelato!
