Designing the farm set PART 1

2019-03-08 by David

While work on the BIG Japanese castle is ongoing, I've started some other side projects - the first of which is a farmyard set, to accompany a modular farmhouse building set.

These are the first two elements of the farm; a rice barn and some bamboo fences.

£ Rice barns like these were found all over Japan in the feudal era, as every community's main source of income was rice from their paddy fields. They stored them in communal barns elevated off the ground, with circular discs around each of the legs to prevent rats climbing up.

£ This is the CG render of the finished barn, with detailed wooden walls and realistic straw thatch. You're going to love how this model prints in several pieces, with each piece oriented to get the best out of your printers!

£ The second part of the set is this bamboo fence, which can be found even in present-day Japan as a quick and easy garden fence, and could be used to mark boundaries, hold back weeds or soil, or keep chickens. This photo was taken 2 minutes from my house!

£ The straight section is 120mm long and 25mm high, and two versions are included; with and without bases. Small corner sections are also included.

Still to be revealed from the farm set are livestock stables (for horses and water buffalo), a rice paddy, cart and containers, water well, woodpile and ploughed field, plus some small accessories. This set should bring your table to life like never before!
