Samurai LED lanterns

2019-01-18 by David

As I was sitting down to play an exciting game of Test of Honour this week, with a group of ninja assassins about to ambush a shipment of gold, I realised that perhaps I could do a little better than some plain white LED tealights from the local 100 yen shop....

... and so the idea stuck in my head, to design and print something that could work in the same way but also fit the terrain better!

£ After some google searches, this was the lantern I decided to model, as it can be used anywhere (castles, gardens, shrine, roads, towns, countryside villages), and it has a base big enough to hide a button battery.

£ This is the finished lantern, with a lantern cage big enough to house an LED taken from my 100 yen shop tealights. Inside the body of the structure are two pipes, leading down to a space underneath which contains a three-volt CR2032 battery.

£ Of course some people will prefer not to fit LEDs to their lanterns, so I also modelled this solid version - easy enough to paint white in the gaps to represent the paper screens.

Tomorrow I'll be doing another blog article on how to wire the Samurai Lanterns.... with nothing more than a paper clip!
