Samurai Wooden Walls available NOW!!

2019-01-24 by David

Well, those painted up very easily, so we're a little ahead of schedule and you lucky people get TWO releases in one week! - the feudal Japanese era Samurai Wooden Walls Set is now available for download!

  Samurai Wooden Walls

£ This set of walls contains 12cm straight sections, two versions of the gateway, and corner sections, all with optional bases.

£ This is a basic 8 section arrangement, with both gateway versions. There is a sloped roof version and a solid beam version. Both are commonly found in rural and town settings throughout Japan, even until recent times.

£ As you can see, the fences reach to about head-height on 28mm models, providing plenty of cover for that sneaky ninja!

£ Gates can be hinged using a small piece of rod or even spare filament, and can be opened and closed during games. The locking bar on the back holds them firmly closed.

£ Two versions of each fence are included, the plain wooden version shown above .....

£ ..... and also a version with nail heads sculpted on. The better class of Japanese fencemaker might have used wooden pegs instead of nails.

£ Each section comes with an optional textured base.

£ As you can see from this photo, you don't actually need the bases attached, if you add 5mm magnets in the holes at each end - they will hold together nicely on your tabletop.

£ Here's an alternative arrangement, just to show the versatility of the set.

Fast to print and fast to paint, I painted up these walls using the following recipe:

  • Light brown undercoat (GW's Khemri Brown)
  • Brown wash (light wash of Agrax Earthshade)
  • Drybrush light brown (Khemri Brown)
  • Drybrush light beige (Rakarth Flesh)
  • Drybrush the bottom 5mm with light grey (Astronomican Grey) to age the wood
  • Wash some of the bottom 5mm with green wash (Biel-Tan Green) to simulate mold

That gave an old, weathered appearance to my walls, because wood rots fast in this climate!
